3. Sergio Rodriguez, Philadelphia
Returning to the NBA this season after spending the last six seasons overseas, the man known as “Spanish Chocolate” was signed by the Philadelphia 76ers for one year at $8 million. He’s started 13 games this year, averaging 7.7 points per game while dishing out a whopping average of 7.3 assists.
Rodriguez hasn’t shown 3-point range thus far in those 13 games, hitting at just a 26 percent clip on his 54 attempts. In his three previous NBA campaigns prior to heading overseas, he was connecting at a rate of 35 percent.
One reason that Rodriguez has started every game is because the Sixers have been without another free agent signee in Jerryd Bayless, who’s set to return soon from injury. When that happens, Rodriguez may be shifted over to shooting guard or he may share the point with Bayless, who has a three-year deal. However, whether Philadelphia considers it valuable to pay Rodriguez that much as a backup could determine his availability.
