Technically, Colin Cowherd didn’t actually say that, though his reasoning was offering that fully-formed opinion about James. The occasion was the day after Game 2 of the 2016 NBA Finals, with Cleveland facing a 2-0 deficit and coming off an embarrassing rout.
In words that will live in infamy, Cowherd made the following comment about James’ future: “We’re seeing the LeBron that’s 31, is not going to chase you down and block from behind, is not going to slam dunk as much or with the volume he did.” The video below from the closing moments of Game 7 is ample evidence of Cowherd’s basketball intellect.

With Kevin Durant now a member of the Golden State Warriors, James and the Cavaliers are already being relegated to also-rans when it comes to winning another title. Given his detractors’ history with these sorts of projections, James looks like he’s in good shape.
