This criticism is based on the idea that James somehow pulls back his energy, in contrast to players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. The flawed idea is that James can’t be depended upon when it comes to closeout games.
Once again, the facts get in the way of a good story. In fact, over the past six years, James has compiled an outstanding 21-4 record in those so called closeout contests. Making it even more impressive is that since returning to Cleveland, the Cavaliers have won all seven games in this particular situation, including Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals.
