6. Not Afraid to Challenge Players
Walking on eggshells isn’t part of the lesson plan that coaches are given when dealing with players of all abilities. Doing so is a recipe for disaster, since it allows players to remain unchecked. Some need to be pushed, some need to be encouraged and, in some cases, some need to be left alone.
Whatever form this level of coaching takes, the bottom line is that Lue won’t be afraid to challenge the “Big Three” of James, Irving and Kevin Love to produce, something Blatt never really did. If they fall short, he also won’t be reluctant to let them know.
