Christian Wood is a really fascinating prospect. He’s a physical freak with a unique skill set, very similar to former Baylor University player Isaiah Austin. Wood prefers to float around the perimeter, attack out of the triple threat, and shoot jumpers. He’s the farthest thing you can find from a traditional big man.

At this point, his offensive game isn’t refined and his jumper needs some work, especially if he is going to continue to shoot at such a high volume away from the basket. When looking to cut off-ball from the weak side however, Wood takes full advantage of his freakish athleticism to easily finish above the rim.

On the defensive end, Wood struggles at the point of attack in the post. He has a weak base and gets backed down easily. An NBA lifting regimen will definitely help this, but don’t expect this guy to ever be a beast down low.

Wood’s strength lies in his length. In help defense situations Wood excels by using his long arms and impressive lateral speed to block shots and affect rim attacks. If used properly, Wood can really help an NBA team as a weak side defensive presence, a la Serge Ibaka.
