While there might be some debate about which player was the centerpiece of this squad, Chauncey Billups or Richard Hamilton, the fact remains that the supporting cast was never again able to help the Pistons win an NBA title.
In the Finals that year, they had the good fortune of taking on a Los Angeles Lakers team that was trying to win its fourth title in the past five years. However, behind the scenes, that team was falling apart as the Shaquille O’Neal-Kobe Bryant alliance was beginning to shatter.
