Some Cleveland Cavaliers fans who purchased DAZN before the team’s DirecTV agreement may have a way to seek their money back.

“DirecTV customers who previously purchased DAZN may now be qualified for a refund by contacting DAZN customer support,” wrote Danny Cunningham.

The update follows Saturday’s report that Cavs games were coming to DirecTV. For someone who bought a separate subscription to follow Cleveland, the question now extends beyond where the games are available to whether that earlier purchase can be refunded.

What Cavs fans can ask DAZN about refunds

Cunningham’s post does not specify a purchase cutoff, a refund amount or how long a request might take. It also does not say whether monthly and season-pass customers would receive the same treatment.

That leaves an important distinction between a possible refund and a guaranteed reimbursement. Fans should ask support to review their individual purchase rather than assume that the distribution agreement automatically reverses a charge.

DAZN’s subscription support page directs customers with unresolved questions to its “Need Help” chat. The page says a virtual assistant can transfer an inquiry to a customer service representative when needed.

That page provides a contact route, not a Cavs-specific refund promise. A useful request would identify the Cavaliers subscription, explain that the customer also has DirecTV and ask whether the newly announced arrangement makes that purchase eligible for a refund.

Customers should also distinguish a request to recover money already paid from a request to stop future renewal. Asking support to confirm both outcomes would help avoid treating one as proof that the other has been completed.

Which DirecTV customers can watch Cavs games?

Monday’s official announcement supplies the viewing details. Access applies within the team’s NBA-designated home territory, with these requirements:

Service Qualifying package Cavs channel
DirecTV streaming Choice or higher 660
DirecTV satellite Choice or higher 660
U-verse TV U200 or higher 1734/734

The arrangement includes pregame and postgame programming alongside the games. Eligible customers will also be able to access DAZN with their DirecTV credentials at no additional charge in the coming weeks; that feature was announced as forthcoming.

The release does not spell out refund terms. Its confirmation of U-verse coverage also should not be treated as confirmation that U-verse customers qualify for the refund possibility Cunningham described for DirecTV customers.

Why the refund question matters to Cavs fans

In its September announcement of the Cavaliers partnership, DAZN listed standard subscriptions at $19.99 per month or $119.99 for a season pass. Ultimate subscriptions were listed at $24.99 monthly or $139.99 for the season.

Those prices explain why a refund could matter to someone who made a season-long purchase before learning that an existing television package would carry the games.

The viewing arrangements had already drawn criticism from Ken Carman over accessibility and cost. The new distribution option addresses part of that concern, but its value depends on which service a household already buys.

DAZN’s original agreement also included 15 free games and excluded games selected for exclusive national broadcasts from its regular local package. Fans still need to distinguish local coverage from national exclusives when deciding what subscriptions they need.

For subscribers who already paid, the immediate action identified in Cunningham’s report is contacting DAZN support. Whether that leads to money back remains a question for the customer’s individual request.
