Cleveland Cavaliers forward Georges Niang showed some major love to Cavs star Darius Garland on social media on Sunday, claiming that the former lottery pick is the best point guard in the NBA.

A one-time All-Star, Garland is having a great start to the 2024-25 season for the Cavs, who hold the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference and the best record in the NBA.
Garland is averaging 20.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 43.1 percent from 3. Both Garland’s field-goal percentage and his 3-point percentage are the best marks of his NBA career.
The No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Garland failed to average 20 points per game last season (he finished the campaign averaging 18.0 points on 14.8 shots per game), but he’s become a more efficient player in the 2024-25 season.
Garland is attempting 14.9 shots per game this season – barely more than he did last season – yet he’s averaging 2.5 more points per night.
This is great news for the Cavs, as Garland and Donovan Mitchell have formed one of the best backcourts in the NBA this season.
While there are a ton of great point guards in the NBA, Niang clearly feels that his teammate deserves to at least be in the mix for that honor.
Niang has been an important bench piece for the Cavs this season, averaging 8.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 48.1 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from 3. The veteran forward has started just one of the 35 games that he’s appeared in during the 2024-25 campaign.
Garland turned in an impressive game on Sunday in the Cavs’ win over the Charlotte Hornets. He finished with 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting (4-for-7 from 3) to go with three rebounds and two assists.
The win over Charlotte was the Cavs’ 10th in a row, and they are now 31-4 on the season heading into a clash with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night. Oklahoma City holds the best record in the Western Conference at 30-5 so far in the 2024-25 season.
