10 Assets Cleveland Cavaliers Could Acquire During 2016-17 Season

1. Mario Chalmers

At this point, signing Mario Chalmers just makes sense for the Cavaliers. He has an undeniable chemistry with James, championship experience and he comes cheap. There is a bit of concern with Chalmers’ recent Achilles tear, but with the right infrastructure in place, Cleveland could afford to ease him back into the lineup at a pace that would allow Chalmers to reach full strength.

If Williams does decide to return to the NBA this season, he could serve as the backup point guard in spots until Chalmers is ready to assume the role full-time. At that point, the Cavs could trade Williams at perhaps a higher value than before simply because he has proven that he can still be serviceable in certain aspects.

Chalmers was a starting point guard for the Miami Heat during its championship runs, but that stage of his career is clearly done. Now, Chalmers would serve excellently as Irving’s backup and would be a great addition to the second unit when James is still on the court.

He’s a decent defender, and again, he already knows how to play with James and work with him off the court.

Veteran players with championship experience are vital to a repeat, and Chalmers would provide just that.
