There have recently been rumors circulating about Ricky Rubio possibly being an available asset from the Minnesota Timberwolves. It makes sense, as the Wolves have drafted players like Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn at the point guard position over the past few seasons.
Rubio would be a great fit to back up Irving, and his passing ability is clearly at an elite level, so he could comfortably run the second unit. If the Cavs leave Love on the floor with the second unit, a Rubio-Love pick-and-roll could be absolutely devastating, particularly against second-unit defenses.
Furthermore, if Smith does not end up re-signing, Rubio could fill a nice void left in the backcourt, simply because Irving has shown the ability to play on or off the ball. Should Smith be on the court at the same time as Rubio, the relationship would most likely be seamless, as Smith is an incredible spot-up shooter who would get some quality looks with Rubio running the point guard position.
