James does not affect the game simply with his offensive skill set. But his defensive versatility allows him to guard all five positions throughout the game, which in turn leads to eye-popping defensive numbers as well. While he is known for highlight reel chase-down blocks on fast breaks, it is the all-time steals list that James is rapidly climbing.

James began the season with 1,553 steals, ranking him at 31st all-time. He has managed to record at least 115 steals in every season except for last year, and if he regains this amount for 2015-16 he will make a significant leap up the rankings. 115 steals in the 2015-16 season would move James up nine spots to 22nd all-time, passing Hall-of-Famer Charles Barkley. Also rising up the ranks currently is Chris Paul, so James will have company as he looks to achieve defensive recognition.
