10 Things the Cavs Must Do in Order to Win a Championship This Season

9. Keep J.R. Smith out of Trouble

Smith arrived from New York with a reputation of being difficult to manage. His tendencies of enjoying the nightlife as well as spending hours on the golf course on game days led to his fall from graces after winning the Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2013.

Smith turned over a new leaf in Cleveland. After spending the majority of the regular season as a starter, he transitioned to a bench role seamlessly, and was a major contributor throughout the regular season and playoffs.

Some of Smith’s bad habits showed up, however, when he was ejected from Game 4 of the first round playoff series versus Boston. In addition, a violent elbow to the head of Jae Crowder cost Smith the first two games of a crucial second round series against the Chicago Bulls.

If the Cavs are going to make another run through the playoffs they will need Smith to be on his best behavior. If that occurs, people will be singing his praises all along the North Coast.
