10 Things the Cavs Must Do in Order to Win a Championship This Season

2. Increase the Role of Kevin Love

In limited preseason action, Love has looked like a new man. Last season’s back ailments seem to be gone, as Love has been able to move around the court without any signs of back pain or lingering issues from his season-ending shoulder surgery.

A healthy Love, however, simply will not be enough. The Cavaliers will need Love to return to his All-Star form, and in order for that to happen he will need to be an integral part of the offense. That means no more long stretches of simply spotting up outside watching James or Irving dominate the ball.

Love has the ability to dominate all over the basketball court. Sure, there will be a time for him to spot up outside the arc and draw defenses away from the paint. However, he needs to find himself creating action both in the low post and elbow, particularly on the left side of the court.

Much like teammate LeBron James, Love does most of his damage from the left side. It will be up to Coach Blatt to determine the best way to get the most out of each star, but it will be critical that Love receives his share of looks to provide the offense with a balance that all championship teams possess.
