Cleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome was able to play against a familiar face when the Dallas Mavericks came to town on Sunday. He faced off against his former teammate on the Golden State Warriors in Klay Thompson.
Both Jerome and Thompson were members of the Warriors in the 2022-23 campaign. Jerome spent just one season in Golden State, while Thompson played for the Warriors for over a decade and won four titles during his time with them.
After Sunday’s game between the Cavaliers and Mavericks ended, Thompson apparently had some gifts for Jerome. He provided Jerome with a signed Mavericks jersey along with some cash.
Jerome’s Cavaliers massively outplayed the Mavericks on both ends of the floor. The Cavaliers won by a whopping 43 points and scored 144 points as a team while holding Dallas to only 101.
The 27-year-old also outdid Thompson from an individual perspective. Thompson got the start for Dallas but totaled only two points while missing all but one of his 10 shots from the field and every one of his six 3-point attempts. Also, perhaps because of his cold shooting as well as the lopsided nature of the game, Thompson didn’t even finish the contest with 20 minutes of playing time.
Jerome, on the other hand, had yet another standout scoring performance off the pine for Cleveland. He reached double digits in points with 12 on 5-of-12 shooting from the floor and 2-of-4 from 3-point range.
Sunday was just another day in the office for Jerome this season in terms of the efficiency with which he scored the ball from deep. A career-high 43.1 percent of Jerome’s 3s have found the bottom of the net in his second season as a Cavalier.
Jerome and the Cavaliers picked up their 40th win of the campaign already on Sunday. No other team in the league has more than 38 wins to this point, and Cleveland has five more wins than any squad in the Eastern Conference. The defending champion Boston Celtics have 35 at this time, and they are actually set to soon take on the Cavaliers once again on Feb. 4.
