The most recent reports regarding Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Isaiah Thomas‘ recovery from his lingering injury have been incredibly promising. On Sunday, the latest update shined light on the fact that the All-Star may in fact be returning sooner than was previously expected.
It was first reported back in early November that Thomas’ timetable to return by January had been accelerated. Signs of that were on display when he was seen running full court and shooting at both ends of the court during Sunday’s practice as the Cavs prepare for their Monday matchup against the Detroit Pistons.
Thomas reportedly participated in the Cavs’ 5-on-0 drills in practice as well.
With fellow point guard Derrick Rose struggling with an injury that is projected to keep him out for several weeks, and several other Cavs players sitting out with injuries as well, it is promising to see that Thomas’ return could in fact come sooner than expected.
Since the Cavs struggled mightily early in the season, they have enjoyed a four-game winning streak and are now sitting at 9-7 on the season, which is good for fifth in the current Eastern Conference.
While the Cavaliers have been able to survive without Thomas’ supreme offensive talent, it will be interesting to see whether or not the team can thrive once he returns to the court later this season.
