It’s no secret. LeBron James is one of the most spectacularly charismatic dunkers in the history of the National Basketball Association. He “throws the hammer down” like Thor and attacks the hoop like a runaway freight train. His first step towards the paint can instill feelings of fear and trepidation in even the most proficient rim-protecting big men.
What better way to finish off this list, than with arguably the most electrifying dunk of the King’s reign?
The scene is the 2008 Eastern Conference Semifinals. After losing the opening two games in Beantown, LeBron and the Cavs are staring down the barrell of a loaded gun that is the Boston Celtics. They return home to the shores of Lake Erie with work to do. They find a way to win Game 3 and cut into the series deficit, and along comes Game 4.
Fast forward to just under two minutes remaining. The Cavs are up by seven and are looking to put the nail in the coffin, ultimately sending the series back to Boston all square. I’ll leave the rest to TNT play-by-play announcer Kevin Harlan.
“[Kevin] Garnett comes out on LeBron. Now they switch and here’s Pierce again. A Smith screen, and Posey will defend. OHHHHHH!! LEBRON JAMES, WITH NO REGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE HAS GIVEN THE CAVALIERS THEIR BIGGEST LEAD TONIGHT!”
A legendary call on a legendary dunk by a legendary player. There can only be one King, and his name is LeBron James.
