As the NBA was hitting its homestretch of the 2012-13 season, a red-hot Miami Heat team that was riding a historic 22-game win streak, strolled into Boston like a team possessed. The previous summer, the Celtics had lost one of their “Big 3,” Ray Allen, to the Heat and had subsequently replaced him with another one of LeBron’s nemeses, Jason Terry.
Terry, who played a vital role in Miami’s Finals loss to the Dallas Mavericks two years prior, was a well-known trash-talker. Over the years, he had sent his fair share of jabs in the direction of the “King.” In fact, prior to this very game, “Jet,” as he is known in NBA circles, was asked what he thought of the Heat’s current run.
“Not really impressed with it, or anything they do.” said Terry. “So, for me, it’s more about what our team is doing and how we’re coming together as a unit.”
Unfortunately for Terry, the only thing “coming together” on that day was he and a freight train otherwise known as LeBron James. As if being put on a poster wasn’t enough, James made sure to twist the knife a bit following the Heat’s 105-103 victory, their 23rd straight.
“I’ve had a chance to [review] it, and it was one of my better ones,” James said. “The fact that it happened to J.T. made it that much sweeter. Because we all know J.T. and he talks too much sometimes. And I’m glad it happened to him.”
Ouch. Now that’s gotta hurt.
