Cavs Rumors: Carmelo Anthony Willing to Waive No-Trade Clause to Join Cleveland Cavaliers

Things are looking up for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Nearly two months after Carmelo Anthony reportedly took the Cavs off his list of teams he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause for, the Cavs are reportedly back in the running for the star forward.

According to ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski, Anthony has expanded his list of teams he would accept a trade to and has included the Cavs as a potential landing spot.

Wojnarowski went into greater detail regarding Anthony’s interest in joining Cleveland in a recent ESPN article:

“Anthony has been urging the Knicks to show urgency in their pursuit of a trade before the season, league sources said. The Knicks made a preliminary call to the Cavaliers on Monday, but the two sides haven’t exchanged trade ideas, league sources told ESPN. Cleveland has to weigh the fact that Anthony, with two years, $54 million left on his contract, could opt into the $27.9 million in the final year of his deal for 2018-19 — when LeBron James could be gone in free agency, and Cleveland may be embarking on a rebuild.”

Earlier in the summer, it was reported that Cleveland was Anthony’s preferred destination, but as the Kyrie Irving drama unfolded, the 10-time NBA All-Star seemed to lose interest. Now that Irving has been shipped to the Boston Celtics and the Cavs have focused their attention on another championship run, Anthony seems to see the Cavs as an attractive option once again.

This NBA offseason has been the craziest in recent memory for the Cavaliers. While the Cavs clearly have a lot to consider before dealing for Anthony, if he were to suit up in the Wine and Gold this season, the craziness would be unquestionably worth it.
