5 Point Guards Cavs Could Be Looking to Target in December

2. D.J. Augustin, Orlando

Having just turned 29, Augustin is in the first season of a four-year pact that will pay him $7.25 million per year. The Magic are the well-traveled Augustin’s eighth team, having spent almost all his time as a reserve, with the exception of the 2010-11 season. That year, he started all 82 games for the then-Charlotte Bobcats.

This season, he’s averaging just under 19 minutes a game, while averaging 9.9 points and 2.6 assists. The scoring average virtually matches his career numbers, though the assist tally has taken a bit of a dip from his career average of 4.0. Augustin would offer the Cavs a player who has hit on 37.4 percent of his 3-point attempts for his career.

While the Cavaliers have never been shy about taking on salary, they may not want to take on that much for a reserve with modest numbers. Still, he may be a player the ever-rebuilding Magic may think twice about before paying his salary for the next four years.

Next: Deron Williams, Dallas
