Having been a point guard, Lue knows what the position requires and how to effectively manage what’s expected in this area. While Kyrie Irving is already blessed with a mountain of talent, getting every ounce of ability out of him, along with that of Mo Williams and Matthew Dellavedova, on a consistent basis is something that the Cavaliers desperately need.
Lue has experience in this area, having coached with the Celtics from 2009-13. During that first year, Rajon Rondo made the All-Star game for the first time and went on to make it each year during Lue’s time in Boston. Then, in his one season with the Los Angeles Clippers, Chris Paul saw his scoring average increase and his assists per game improve.
