Cavs Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers Won’t Be Signing Ray Allen

In a Friday morning radio appearance, ESPN.com writer Brian Windhorst said that the Cleveland Cavaliers are no longer in the running to sign veteran free agent shooting guard Ray Allen.

While Allen has yet to make a decision about playing for any team, Windhorst indicated during his ESPN Cleveland radio chat that the Cavs’ six month pursuit of Allen has ended. His comment pertaining to the Allen situation was then tweeted out by the radio station.

That lengthy pursuit began back in August, with talk of Allen eventually making a decision right before the start of the regular season. That deadline passed, with any further discussions staying dormant for the next few months.

Then, in January, LeBron James reportedly met with Allen, a former Miami Heat teammate, in Miami when James was rehabbing his injured knee. No decision was made at that time, with talk then shifting to Allen making a decision at the conclusion of the All-Star weekend.

One local Cleveland sportscaster then tweeted a few days after the All-Star game was played that Allen had been seen in Cleveland. No official confirmation was ever made about that rumor by either the Cavaliers or anyone in Allen’s camp.

Last season, Allen averaged 9.6 points in over 26 minutes per game. He shot 44.2 percent from the field, including 37.5 from beyond the three-point line.
