The Cleveland Cavaliers are closer to getting Meleek Thomas back for Saturday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks after upgrading the guard from questionable to probable.

Thomas is dealing with right foot inflammation. This gives Cleveland a more encouraging outlook after the rookie missed Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Jaylon Tyson remains out with a right ankle sprain. Thomas’ improved designation therefore offers the Cavs a potential addition to their available group while another perimeter player remains sidelined.

Cleveland’s visit to Milwaukee is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Updated Cavs injury report vs. Bucks

The NBA’s 2:15 p.m. EST injury report lists the following Cleveland designations:

Player Status Reason
Meleek Thomas Probable Right foot inflammation/soreness
Jaylon Tyson Out Right ankle sprain
Nae’Qwan Tomlin Out Low back stress reaction
Khalifa Diop Out G League assignment
Ernest Udeh Jr. Out G League two-way designation

Thomas’ upgrade is the change from Friday’s questionable designation. It does not establish a minutes limit or guarantee he will play; Cleveland still has to make its final availability decision.

The report also distinguishes the reasons for the absences. Diop and Udeh are listed for G League reasons, while Tyson and Tomlin have injury designations.

What Meleek Thomas could bring back to Cleveland’s rotation

Thomas has already shown why another opportunity matters. In his NBA debut, he produced 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting with four made 3-pointers.

That performance supplied perimeter scoring, but Kenny Atkinson has identified another reason to use him. The coach previously explained the need for another ball-handler to support Donovan Mitchell and James Harden.

If Thomas is cleared, that gives Atkinson another option for possessions in which one of Cleveland’s primary creators needs help bringing the ball forward or continuing the offense after a pass.

It would not require Thomas to take over Tyson’s role directly; the two availability decisions affect how the coach can assemble his groups.

After Wednesday’s game, Atkinson shared his assessment of the rookie’s progress.

That comment provides context for Thomas’ developing role. It preceded the injury absence and should not be read as a fresh medical assessment or a promise about Saturday’s playing time.

For the Bucks matchup, the remaining question is whether the probable designation becomes clearance to play. Cleveland has received a positive update on Thomas, while Tyson’s absence remains part of Atkinson’s rotation planning.
