Report: Cavs not interested in what Mavs have to offer in potential Collin Sexton sign-and-trade

While the Cleveland Cavaliers have already made some offseason moves to improve their roster, one move that they have not yet made is re-signing Collin Sexton.

Sexton is currently a restricted free agent, and while many believe that the Cavs will try to retain him, there have already been reports of interest coming from other teams in the league.

One such team is the Dallas Mavericks, who would likely have to add Sexton via sign-and-trade. However, at the moment, the Cavs do not seem to be interested in the pieces that the Mavs have to offer.

“The Dallas Mavericks have been rumored as a team that may have interest because they lost Jalen Brunson,” Chris Fedor said during a recent podcast episode. “They don’t have cap space. So it would have to be a sign-and-trade worked out with the Cavs. And I’m told that the Cavs are not very attracted to any of the pieces that Dallas would be willing to send back to them in a potential sign-and-trade.”

Brunson signed a four-year, $104 million deal with the Knicks last week. Now, the Mavs could really use some more backcourt help.

Sexton absolutely has the talent to be a starting guard, though he has shown more talent scoring as opposed to distributing the ball. If the Cavs do bring him back, it will be interesting to see if they try to line him up next to Darius Garland in the starting backcourt or see if he can flourish in a role coming off the bench. Either way, he would surely play a big role for the team.

He would have had a big role last season, but a knee injury cut his campaign short. Luckily, he was recently cleared for full basketball activities and has seemingly made a full recovery.

Sexton’s future is still somewhat unclear. What is clear is that he likely won’t land with the Mavs unless they are willing to sweeten the pot in a potential sign-and-trade.
