San Antonio Spurs rookie explains why he models his game after Caris LeVert

The San Antonio Spurs found one of their next projects after drafting Blake Wesley with the No. 25 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

The talented prospect recently spoke with HoopsHype’s Sam Yip and named Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Caris LeVert as one of the players he models his game after.

“I model my game after Jordan Poole and Caris LeVert,” said Wesley. “I like the way Jordan Poole plays so I try to model my game after him. And then Caris LeVert has the boogie to him, so I try to get boogie like him, so I like both of them.”

Naming Poole as one of the players he looks up to may not come as a surprise to some. After all, the offensive-minded guard played a key role in the Golden State Warriors’ title run last season. He averaged career-highs across the board in the regular season and exhibited great poise in the playoffs.

As for LeVert, the University of Michigan product has performed well in the league when healthy.

His best season came in the 2020-21 campaign. That year, he played for the Brooklyn Nets to start the season and then got traded to the Indiana Pacers in the middle of the campaign. In 47 games, he averaged 20.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists per contest.

Unfortunately, injuries have derailed LeVert’s career so far. He has missed a significant number of games in recent years.

Last season, he appeared in just 58 games, with 19 of those coming in a Cavs uniform. The 6-foot-6 guard was dealt to Cleveland around the trade deadline. He was able to play in the last 15 matches of the regular season, starting in nine of those contests.

This season, LeVert is expected to help the Cavs in their quest to return to the playoffs after a lengthy absence.
