Report: Cavs Ready to Offer Kevin Love Monster Contract in Coming Days

For much of the offseason, the reports regarding Kevin Love have primarily questioned whether or not the All-Star big man has a future with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Based on a recent report, it seems like those questions may get answered very soon.

According to a credible Reddit user known as SEAinLA, an extension for Love could be on the horizon.

“I’m hearing that the Love extension is forthcoming shortly and is expected to land in the 4-year/$120 million range,” SEAinLA wrote on Monday morning.

“Will pass along any additional information as I receive the same.”

Shortly after the initial post, a moderator of the subreddit devoted to the Cavs admitted that he was about to delete the post before he realized that the user seems to have a very real source in the NBA. Another user then noted that SEAinLA posted about the recent Marcus Smart extension with the Boston Celtics a day before the news broke.

While this report should be taken with a grain of salt, recent words out of the Cavs organization seem to indicate that they are indeed keen on keeping Love on the roster.

It should be no surprise why. While Love took a back seat to former teammates like LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in his first four seasons with the Cavs, he had spent the previous six seasons of his career leading the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Now that both James and Irving are no longer on the Cavs, it stands to reason that the Cavs’ front office wants to see if Love can regain his former role as an offensive leader. Last season, Love averaged 17.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. If he remains on the squad, those numbers are sure to go up as long as he can stay healthy.

While Love is already signed through the 2019-20 offseason, an extension would make it clear that Love is a focal point of the team and would allow the Cavs to better plan for the future.
