Dan Gilbert Gives Heavy Praise to Collin Sexton for Summer League Play

The Cleveland Cavaliers may be on the cusp of what could be considered a rebuilding period following the departure of LeBron James earlier this month. If that’s the case, it appears the Cavs chose the right rookie in the 2018 NBA Draft to help lead them into the future.

Former University of Alabama standout and first-round draft pick Collin Sexton has done much to impress during his young career with the Cavs. This of course includes a number of truly impressive performances in the 2018 NBA Summer League.

While the Cavaliers squad ended up losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Summer League semifinals, 111-109, Cavs owner Dan Gilbert was quite pleased with what he saw.

While the entire team performed well during their run to the semifinal game, Sexton was among the players to truly stand out.

In seven games, Sexton averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. He also shot 42.9 percent from the floor and 43.0 percent from beyond the three-point line. Beyond that, Sexton showed a competitiveness and intensity that has quickly made him a fan favorite.

Now that the Cavs’ Summer League run has come to an end, fans everywhere will be forced wait patiently for the next time they will be able to see Sexton take the court in the Wine and Gold.

Expectations for the 2018-19 season changed dramatically once James decided to sign elsewhere. Still, thanks to Sexton and the rest of his Summer League teammates, it is quite clear that there is a lot to be excited about when it comes to basketball in Northeast Ohio.
