Cavs Rumors: Isaiah Thomas Expected to Make Debut During West Coast Road Trip

Isaiah Thomas has been rumored to be on the verge of returning from his hip injury for quite some time, and now it seems that his finals days of recovery are truly upon us.

The Cleveland Cavaliers‘ schedule going forward includes a two-game home stand, three games against Eastern Conference opponents, and then a three-game West Coast road trip. According to Sam Amico of AmicoHoops.net, Thomas’ return is expected to come during that upcoming road trip out west:

“Isaiah Thomas has been progressing on schedule, and barring any setbacks, the All-Star point guard is on track to make his season debut during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ upcoming West Coast trip, league sources told Amico Hoops on Tuesday.”

Amico also described the kind of work that 5-foot-9 point guard has been doing as of late, signifying that he is ready for in-game action:

“He has recently taken part in games of four-on-four and three-on-three, and according to sources, looks ready for five-on-five — and possibly even game action,” Amico wrote. “‘He’s ready,’ one source said.”

Thomas was far and away the most talented player the Cavs received in the trade that sent Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics, and while Cleveland has managed to find substantial success without him as of late, his return is welcome news.

Last season, Thomas averaged 28.9 points per game and became one of the most dangerous scorers in the entire NBA. While it will certainly take time for him to find his groove with his new teammates, there is little doubt that he will help make the Cavs the surefire favorites to win the Eastern Conference once again.
