Report: LeBron James’ Status for Season Opener Still Undetermined

LeBron James is currently dealing with what has been deemed the most serious ankle injury of his storied career. While James surely wants nothing more than to help the Cleveland Cavaliers begin the season by defeating Kyrie Irving and the Boston Celtics, it is still unclear whether or not he will be healthy enough to do so.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, James participated in a quarter of the Cavs’ practice on Sunday. His time on the court, however, was not enough to determine the four-time NBA MVP’s status for Tuesday’s game.

Tom Wither of the Associated Press added to the report:

“Coach Tyronn Lue said James was on the floor to go over some plays Sunday before getting in a cardio workout and some treatment.”

Following practice, Lue discussed James’ status:

“He’s got to see how it feels,” Lue said. “Getting treatment, work it the right way and see what happens.”

He also joked when asked why it has taken time for the three-time NBA champion to get back to full health following the initial injury.

“He’s getting older, like me,” Lue said. “It’s something that he’s been trying to work on. He tried to come back and play and he might have tweaked it on that spin move, and that could have set him back a little bit.”

James absence in the season opener would surely be difficult for the Cavs to overcome. Still, with a long season ahead it is crucial that James focuses on healing the injury before he takes the court. Luckily for the Cleveland faithful, there’s a ton of talent on the Cavs’ roster to help carry the load if James is forced to miss Tuesday’s game.
