The long and winding road of the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ trade of Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics in exchange for a package that includes point guard Isaiah Thomas has reached a new stage. Specifically, the controversy over additional compensation to account for the injured hip of Thomas has apparently come to an end.
Just days after the Aug. 22 deal was announced, the troubling issues resulting from Thomas’ physical with the Cavaliers came to light. That eventually led to discussions about possible compensation, with the Celtics balking at what were perceived as the Cavaliers excessive requests.
Thursday morning marks the deadline for the Cavaliers to accept the results of the Thomas physical, which would officially complete the trade. If they rule that Thomas flunked his physical, they can revoke the deal. Should the Cavs choose the latter, the search begins anew, with the Milwaukee Bucks possibly in line to acquire Irving, who indicated that he won’t report to training camp if he’s still with the Cavaliers.
