The first and only title for the Bucks came in Kareem Abdul Jabbar’s second season, when they had the good fortune of facing a Baltimore Bullets team that had upset the defending champion New York Knicks. The Bullets appeared to be glad just to be there, and played like it by getting swept and losing each game by an average of 12 points.
Kareem had been joined that year by aging legend Oscar Robertson and developing standout Bob Dandridge, but the team doesn’t reach this level without the 31 points and 16 rebounds Kareem averaged during the year. Kareem’s importance to the team was shown during his first season when he took a 26-win team and improved them by 30 games.
