Cavs unveil 2025 preseason schedule with 4-game slate

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be gearing up for the coming 2025-26 season in the not-so-distant future with a four-game preseason slate. On Thursday, the Cavaliers revealed their preseason schedule in full.

The team will kick off its preseason stint with a home game against the Chicago Bulls on Oct. 7 and wrap it up with another home game versus the Detroit Pistons on Oct. 14.

In between those two games at Rocket Arena, the Cavaliers will also take on the Bulls on Oct. 9 and Boston Celtics on Oct. 12 in what will be a pair of road games for Cleveland.

The Cavaliers are hoping that the start of preseason will mark the beginning of their journey to the 2026 NBA title. Cleveland is aiming to win its second title in franchise history next year and its first since 2016.

For much of the 2024-25 season, it seemed as if 2025 could be Cleveland’s year, but the team underperformed in the playoffs once again. While the Cavaliers did deal with some poor injury luck, they ultimately got knocked out by the Indiana Pacers in the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs and lost the series in five games.

People shouldn’t take too much stock in how Cleveland fares during preseason play from a win/loss standpoint, as it’s likely that the team’s key players will play sporadic minutes in that four-game stretch. However, preseason could help the team decipher if any players are ready to take that next step and be consistent members of head coach Kenny Atkinson’s rotation.

Guard Jaylon Tyson could be in store for a larger role as a sophomore after he averaged just 9.6 minutes per game as a rookie last season. He played very well for the Cavaliers in Summer League recently, and minutes might be for the taking now that guards Isaac Okoro and Ty Jerome are playing elsewhere.

Cavaliers fans should be excited about the release of the team’s preseason schedule, as it indicates that the start of the 2025-26 NBA campaign isn’t all that far away. Fans of the team should have Oct. 7 circled on their calendars.
