Report: Cavs ‘would be more willing to entertain’ trade possibilities for Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland than in the past

Both Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland and big man Jarrett Allen struggled to end the team’s second-round series against the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

Starting with Garland, he missed the first two games of the best-of-seven series with the injury bug, and he didn’t look like his normal self after he made his return to the lineup. He scored just 42 points combined over the three contests and scored just 11 points on 4-of-16 from the field and 0-of-6 from 3-point range in the team’s closeout Game 5 loss.

Unlike Garland, Allen was able to stay out of harm’s way in these playoffs, as he didn’t miss a single one of the nine playoff games that the Cavaliers played in. But his quality of play at the tail end of Cleveland’s second-round series also left a lot to be desired, as he totaled just 11 points and six rebounds in Games 4 and 5 combined.

In light of Garland and Allen’s disappointing play in a crucial part of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, the Cavaliers reportedly “would be more willing to entertain” trade possibilities for Allen and Garland than they have in the past.

“I think the two untouchables are Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley,” Cavs insider Chris Fedor said. “I have been getting the sense that the Cavs would be more willing to entertain and at least consider possibilities for Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland than they have in the past.”

Garland has developed a shaky playoff reputation over the course of his pro career. He isn’t exactly universally recognized as a playoff riser. After all, he’s averaged fewer points and assists per game in his playoff career than he has for his career in the regular season.

He’s also on the heels of a stint in the 2025 NBA Playoffs during which he scored 18.0 points per game while shooting just 42.0 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from 3-point range.

Additionally, before Allen let the Cavaliers down when they needed him most in the 2025 NBA Playoffs, he was sidelined for much of the squad’s stint in the 2024 NBA Playoffs due to a rib injury.

He was limited to just four appearances in Cleveland’s stint that year and didn’t see the floor at all in its series against the Boston Celtics, which Cleveland went on to lose in five games.
