Bill Simmons: ‘I have [Jarrett] Allen circled as a guy that I think could move this summer’

The Cleveland Cavaliers 2024-25 season didn’t end the way that the team was hoping, as the Cavs were knocked out of the playoffs in the second round for the second straight season.

Even though Cleveland won 64 games during the regular season and earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, it won just one game in the second round against the Indiana Pacers.

Naturally, there has been some speculation about what the Cavs will do in the offseason to avoid such a disappointing finish next season.

Recently, Bill Simmons shared his thoughts on the Cavs, and he believes that center Jarrett Allen could end up getting traded in the offseason.

“And I think Jarrett Allen will have real value if Cleveland decides, ‘Actually our move might be (trading Allen),’” Simmons said.

The NBA analyst didn’t stop there, as he revealed that Allen is a player he has “circled” as a potential trade option in the offseason.

“I have Allen circled as a guy that I think could move this summer,” Simmons said.

Allen is currently on a favorable deal, as he’s set to make just $20 million next season. After that, the Cavs big man has an extension kicking in that will pay him over $90 million over a three-season stretch.

If the Cavs believe that they can get better by trading Allen and making Evan Mobley a full-time center, it could be a move worth making.

Since trading for Donovan Mitchell, the Cavs have made the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, but they’ve only won two series. Cleveland lost in the first round in the 2022-23 season to the New York Knicks.

Then, it beat the Orlando Magic last season in the playoffs before bowing out to the Boston Celtics in the second round. This season, the Cavs were dominant in a first-round sweep of the Miami Heat before falling in five games to the Pacers in the second round.

Allen has been a solid player with Cleveland, earning a All-Star nod during the 2021-22 season. In the 2024-25 campaign, the big man appeared in all 82 of the Cavs’ regular season games and averaged 13.5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting an NBA-best 70.6 percent from the field.
