Caitlin Clark agrees that the Cavs are back: ‘They’re really, really good’

WNBA phenom Caitlin Clark joined NFL icons Jason and Travis Kelce for a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast, and during their conversation, Clark showed love to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

“They are,” Clark replied after Travis Kelce said that the Cavs are back. “They are. They’re really, really good.”

The Cavs do indeed appear to be back. They’ve looked unstoppable through 33 games this season, posting a 29-4 record which currently has them on pace for 72 wins. They have the best record in the NBA and are obviously atop the Eastern Conference standings.

While Cleveland made the playoffs in 2022 and 2023, the team wasn’t always seen as a legitimate title threat. That may be changing with each passing win this season. The Cavs are looking to return to the NBA Finals for the first time since franchise legend LeBron James left the team in 2018, and they’re looking to win their first NBA title since James helped Cleveland finally do so in 2016.

Cavs star Donovan Mitchell has been very clear about what he’s trying to accomplish. He said earlier this week that he’s looking to replicate what James did and bring a championship to the city of Cleveland.

The next step for the team is to prove that its regular-season success is going to translate to the playoffs. Last season, the Cavs were finally able to win a playoff series, as they eliminated the Orlando Magic in seven games in the first round. Unfortunately, Cleveland’s hopes came to an end in the second round when the squad (while dealing with injuries) ran into the eventual NBA champion Boston Celtics.

While a series victory was a nice step last season, expectations are only growing for the Cavs as they continue to prove how capable they are. It’s a good problem to have, but it likely means that another second-round exit this season would be seen as a bit of a disappointment. Cleveland seems to be capable of doing some serious damage, and that should be the goal when the playoffs arrive.

In the meantime, the squad can only focus on the regular season. The Cavs will have a chance to capture their 30th win when they take on the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.
