Ex-Warriors championship architect Bob Myers hands Cavs massive compliment

Six games through their 2024-25 regular season, the Cleveland Cavaliers are on a roll. At 6-0, the Cavaliers are one of only two undefeated teams in the league along with the Oklahoma City Thunder and own the NBA’s top record.

The Cavaliers’ most recent win came in a nationally televised contest against the team’s first-round opponent in the 2024 NBA Playoffs — the Orlando Magic — on Friday. While the Magic were without maybe their best player, Paolo Banchero, Cleveland’s 11-point victory was impressive nonetheless.

Before the game, Bob Myers — who served as the general manager of the Golden State Warriors when they won four titles with Stephen Curry and company — said that the Cavaliers might have what it takes to be real contenders.

Cleveland hasn’t made it past the second round of the playoffs since 2018, when LeBron James was still in his second stint with the Cavaliers. When James was leading the way for the team during that span, Cleveland consistently competed for championships, as the Cavaliers played in four consecutive NBA Finals from 2015 through 2018. They became NBA champions in 2016.

Last season’s iteration of the Boston Celtics showed that regular-season play can certainly carry over into the playoffs, and the Cavaliers are building great habits to this point. Cleveland has had maybe the most potent offense in the league this season, as the team ranks second in the NBA behind only the Celtics in points per game as well as first in field-goal percentage and second in 3-point percentage.

The Cavaliers’ next chance to build upon their undefeated start to the season will come when they take on a reeling Milwaukee Bucks team on Saturday. Milwaukee has been one of the more disappointing squads in the NBA since the start of the campaign, as it owns a subpar 1-4 record and hasn’t picked up a win in over a week.

It’s probably too early to tell whether the Cavaliers are title contenders, but fans of the team have to be pleased with how well Cleveland has played lately.
