Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland reacted on social media to a viral NBA 2K clip featuring himself and Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young.
In the clip, Young does a crazy hesitation and crossover move, leaving Garland in the dust.
The Cavs guard laughed off the poor defense from his video game self on X (formerly known as Twitter).
While Garland isn’t known for his defense, it’s probably still tough for the Cavs guard to see himself blown by in the video game by Young.
Last season, Garland and the Cavs had a better season than the Hawks, earning the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference and reaching the second round of the playoffs.
While some of Garland’s numbers took a step back (he averaged less points and assists per game than the previous season), he still helped form a strong guard duo with All-Star Donovan Mitchell.
Garland appeared in 57 games for the Cavs in the 2023-24 season and averaged 18.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Young had a strong season for Atlanta, earning his third All-Star appearance while averaging 25.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 10.8 assists per game. However, the Hawks did not make the playoffs, and they changed their roster this offseason by trading away guard Dejounte Murray.
Two of the better young guards in the Eastern Conference, Young and Garland will likely be compared quite often during their NBA careers. In fact, after Young went as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Garland was the No. 5 overall pick the following offseason in the 2018 NBA Draft.
After doing Garland dirty with the Young clip, NBA 2K may want to show the Cavs guard some love as it prepares for the release for this season’s game. NBA 2K25 is set to be released on Sept. 6, 2024, a little over a month before the start of the 2024-25 NBA regular season.
In this season’s version of the game, Garland was given an 82 overall rating in NBA 2K25 while Young received a rating of 89 overall. Garland will look to bridge that gap with some strong play when the 2024-25 season begins later this year.
