Report: Cavs forward Cedi Osman could be traded

The Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly could trade forward Cedi Osman this offseason.

With free agency beginning on Thursday night, the Cavs could look to move Osman to improve their roster ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Osman is under contract with the Cavs through the 2023-24 season, but it’s possible the team is looking to unload his salary to help bring back a player such as Collin Sexton in free agency.

Last season, Osman appeared in 66 games for the Cavs and made three starts. He averaged 10.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Osman is a solid player, but the Cavs might have a bit of a problem finding minutes for him on the wing after drafting Ochai Agbaji with the No. 14 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. Agbaji, Isaac Okoro and Caris LeVert all figure to play minutes on the wing for the Cavs in the 2022-23 season.

Since Cleveland likes to go big with Evan Mobley, Lauri Markkanen, Kevin Love and Jarrett Allen rotating in at the forward and center spots, Osman could be the odd man out in the rotation.

Cleveland missed the playoffs last season despite making the league’s play-in tournament. The Cavs lost back-to-back games in the play-in after a great regular season.

Osman has been with the Cavs since the 2017-18 season. He has appeared in 327 games for the franchise and made 181 starts. Overall, he has averaged 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 24.5 minutes per game.
