Report: Brandon Knight Drawing Most Trade Interest on Cavs

While the 2019-20 NBA season has just started, trade rumors are already starting to heat up for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, guard Brandon Knight is drawing plenty of trade interest around the league.

“If you can take the hit on his (salary) number and match it, you can get rid of a bad contract and get a guy who can still play,” one league executive told Heavy.com. “He’s got the most interest. He is 28 [sic] years old. He’s been through a lot obviously with the injuries, but he is a guy who can probably help you this year and maybe you keep him on a good value deal if he produces.”

Knight was acquired midway through last season in a three-team deal with the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings. While the point guard was coming off an injury, Knight put up a decent 8.5 points, 2.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game in 27 games for the Cavs last year.

Although the Cavs are reportedly looking to trade Knight, the team values the veteran as an asset to the squad’s younger core. In fact, one of Knight’s greatest contributions last season came as a mentor for Collin Sexton.

Yet, the 6-foot-2 guard may not want to embrace a singular role of veteran mentor just yet. While Knight may not get a ton of playing time now, the 27-year-old certainly is young enough to still have many strong seasons ahead of him.

The University of Kentucky enjoyed his best season when he put up an impressive 19.6 points, 5.1 assists and 3.9 rebounds per contest with the Phoenix Suns during the 2015-16 season.
