Report: No Teams Interested in Acquiring Collin Sexton From Cavs

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Collin Sexton has been rightfully considered untouchable in trade talks, but one report suggests that even if the Cavs were to make him available, no teams around the NBA would be interested in the young point guard.

Sam Amico of AmicoHoops.net recently looked at the Cavs’ limited trade options, who are currently saddled with an 8-32 record and have lost their last nine games. Amico was succinct when discussing the prospect of Sexton being dealt:

“I have not heard of any opposing interest in Sexton.”

Sexton turned 20 years of age on Friday and has thus far had an up-and-down rookie campaign. He’s played in all 40 of the Cavaliers’ games so far this season, averaging 14.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. However, Sexton’s scoring average has dipped slightly to 12.8 per game during the Cavs’ current nine-game losing streak.

On top of that, Sexton’s shooting percentage has taken a nosedive. In the first 31 games of the year, he hit 44.7 percent of his shots from the field, but has made only 31.7 percent of his attempts during this losing skid. From beyond the arc, Sexton had connected on 40.0 percent of his attempts during those first 31 contests, but has since seen that number drop to 36.0 percent since the losing streak began.

After the Cavaliers drafted Sexton, and especially after they lost LeBron James in free agency a short time later, the rookie was seen as one of the cornerstones of the team’s rebuild. While the original plan didn’t envision the disaster that this season has become, it’s far too soon for the Cavaliers to give up on the University of Alabama product.

The hope is that he can work through his current struggles and emerge as the player that the Cavs were expecting when they made their selection just over six months ago.
