Report: Tyronn Lue Makes Official Decision on Isaiah Thomas’ Status for Christmas Day Matchup

News surrounding Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Isaiah Thomas has been wholly positive as of late as the 2017 NBA All-Star edges closer to his long-awaited return.

As recently as last week it was believed that Thomas would be able return during the Cavs’ upcoming West Coast road trip. It now appears, however, that Thomas will not be returning to the court quite so soon.

The fact that Thomas isn’t ready to go just yet could be seen as a possible sign of a setback in his recovery, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

On Thursday, it was reported that Thomas was assigned to the Canton G-League team so he could practice and scrimmage with the Charge on Thursday.

The upcoming West Coast road trip includes a matchup against the Cavs’ West Coast rival Golden State Warriors. There’s no doubt that it would have been fantastic to see Thomas’ triumphant return against the Warriors, but considering how well his teammates have been playing in his absence there is no need to rush.

Following the Cavs’ three-game road trip, they will play one game at home before embarking on a nearly two-week, five-game road trip. Their first game back in Cleveland on Jan. 15 is against the Golden State Warriors. Hopefully, Thomas will already have a few games under his belt when he and his teammates look to defend their homecourt against the reigning NBA champs.
