Five Keys in Order for Cleveland Cavaliers to Beat Indiana Pacers in Round 1

2. Defense Wins Championships

It’s no secret that the Cavs have struggled on defense this season, as their opponents have averaged 107.2 points per game against them. Compared to Cleveland’s 20th-ranked defense, Indiana is slightly above the league average and is ranked 14th in the NBA.

This is the perfect time for Cavs center Tristan Thompson (8.1 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game) to step up in the clutch, especially on defense. Thompson must control the glass against up-and-coming Pacers center Myles Turner, as the 21-year-old had a breakout sophomore season by averaging 14.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game.

This should be a great matchup down in the paint, especially considering both men played college basketball for the Longhorns at the University of Texas.
