Five Things a Championship Will Do for the City of Cleveland

5. The Place to Be

A championship will also make playing in Cleveland a little more desirable for some free agents, especially if the core of the team can stay together for the next 3-4 years. Dan Gilbert has never been reluctant to pay the extra money (as well as the luxury tax that comes with it) needed to try and bring a championship to Cleveland, so there’s no reason to think he’ll change course after a title has been won.

Gilbert will be able to cushion at least a portion of any added expenses with the additional sponsorship revenue he’ll bring in from companies that want their product associated with an NBA champion.

Of course, the mere fact that the Cavaliers are playing for the NBA title will give a major shot in the arm to the city of Cleveland. However, the reality is that only a championship will change the true perspective of locals toward the sports scene in the city and the image of Cleveland in the national spotlight. All that begins by winning four more games this year.
