It feels like forever since James won his last MVP.
The last time James won MVP was during the 2012-13 season, when the Miami Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs in an epic seven-game series for their second consecutive NBA title.
Over the past two seasons, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry have won the award. Needless to say, James is overdue for another MVP.
Similar to Michael Jordan during the 90’s, “The King” has been so consistently great every season that it sometimes works against him.
Having said that, Curry will not have the benefit of winning the award due to surprising team success—the Warriors are the defending NBA champions and are widely regarded as one of the most stacked teams in the entire league.
Furthermore, other MVP candidates such as Anthony Davis for example, don’t play on elite teams. Davis may be an amazing player who posts mind-blowing stats, but it won’t matter if the New Orleans Pelicans aren’t one of the top teams in the NBA.
That really just leaves James Harden and Durant as legit candidates to beat out LeBron for MVP this season.
All the stars are lining up for James to win his fifth MVP award this season. The Cavaliers are considered the best team in the Eastern Conference and No. 23 should return to stats that hover around 53-to-54 percent efficiency from the field while seeing an increase in points and rebounds per game.
