The San Antonio Spurs were willing to wait a few years for the top pick in the draft — Navy center David Robinson. This patience proved to be worth the wait as the Spurs were rewarded with a pair of NBA titles. Other players that made their mark included Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant, who were chosen by the Bulls, Reggie Miller by the Indiana Pacers, Mark Jackson by the New York Knicks and tiny 5-3 Muggsy Bogues, who was selected by the Washington Bullets (now Wizards) and went on to play 14 seasons. Tragically, the Celtics’ Reggie Lewis was working his way toward a potential Hall of Fame career when he died suddenly in 1993. The Cavaliers selected point guard Kevin Johnson, who spent one year with the team until being dealt to the Phoenix Suns in a deal to obtain Larry Nance.
