Booby Gibson on what makes this Cavs team different after ‘battles over the years’

The Cleveland Cavaliers faced their fair share of adversity to reach the heights they’re now enjoying. At 55-10, the 2024-25 Cavaliers are amid one of the most dominant regular seasons in NBA history.

Former Cavs guard Daniel “Booby” Gibson, seen by many as a hero for his 31-point game in the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals that helped send Cleveland to its first NBA Finals, thinks today’s Cavs have confidence in each other after going through battles and wars together over the years.

The players on the 2024-25 Cavs have been teammates for varying amounts of time. Some members of the squad were around when Cleveland was still among the worst teams in the NBA and trying to turn it all around. Some joined in time to experience some of the recent postseason trips and subsequent eliminations. Some are relatively new to the team.

Whatever the case may be, a number of players on the Cavs have experienced lots of highs and lows together. Now, they’re learning what it’s like to be part of a team that has caught the attention of the entire league.

In this particular season, Cleveland hasn’t had to handle a great deal of adversity (at least from an outsider’s perspective). From the day their season began, the Cavs have cruised to a dominant record and stayed relatively healthy, enjoying numerous lengthy winning streaks in the process. Currently, they’re working on their second 15-game winning streak of the season.

While the team won’t be satisfied with anything less than a championship, the confidence that the Cavs seemingly have in each other should do wonders for them when the playoffs arrive. Postseason basketball is a different animal, and even though Cleveland will likely enter it with the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, the squad will need to remain close if it wants its regular-season magic to carry over.

The Cavs have won just one playoff series in recent years. This season alone, they’re hoping to win four.
