Vivek Ramaswamy pulls up to Cavs game, thanks Cleveland for ‘warm welcome’

The expectation is that entrepreneur and politician Vivek Ramaswamy will launch a gubernatorial bid in the state of Ohio for the 2026 election.

With Ramaswamy seemingly primed to run to become the next governor of Ohio, he might have gained some positive PR by attending the Cleveland Cavaliers’ bout against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night.

Ramaswamy was tasked with heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside billionaire businessman Elon Musk for the current Donald Trump administration but stepped down from that role soon after Trump took office. Now, Musk is in charge of the effort, and he allegedly expressed leading up to Trump’s inauguration that he wanted Ramaswamy out of DOGE.

Ramaswamy, an Ohio native, ran to represent the Republicans in the most recent presidential election but dropped out of the race in 2024 and subsequently advocated for Trump to return to the White House.

Unfortunately for Ramaswamy, he did not see the Cavaliers pick up a win against the defending NBA champions when he was in attendance at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Tuesday. Cleveland lost to the Celtics by seven points, and four of Boston’s five starters finished the contest with 16-plus points.

The Cavs might have come out on top if it hadn’t been for such a rough night from big man Evan Mobley. He scored only seven points on 3-of-14 shooting from the floor and didn’t exactly make up for his inefficient scoring by contributing in other facets.

Mobley didn’t tally a single steal or block and also corralled just five rebounds and two assists in what was probably one of his worst all-around performances in recent memory.

However, even after Tuesday’s loss, the Cavaliers still hold a sizable lead over the Celtics for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. Cleveland is 4.5 games ahead of Boston with a record of 40-10. The Celtics, on the other hand, are 36-15 through 51 games played in their 2024-25 regular season and are winners of each of their last four contests.
