Georges Niang goes out of his way to share special moment with Cavs fans

Before the Cleveland Cavaliers took on the Detroit Pistons at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse on Monday night, Cavaliers forward Georges Niang had a special moment with a pair of fans, one of whom was donning his very own Niang jersey.

On top of getting to meet Niang, the two fans also saw the Cavaliers put on quite a show against a Pistons team that’s been surprisingly competitive this season.

The Cavaliers beat the Pistons by 19 points in order to snap their three-game losing streak. Cleveland won the game handily thanks in part to balanced scoring up and down the lineup. Six players on the team scored double digits in points, led by 22 from guard Darius Garland.

Niang didn’t play at the top of his game on the night when he decided to graciously interact with the two fans. He shot just 1-for-9 from the field during the matchup, finishing with three points. But Cleveland still came out on top, which is all that matters in the end.

His lackluster performance against the Pistons notwithstanding, Niang has played an important role for the Cavs off the bench this season. He’s shooting 39.8 percent from 3-point range on 4.4 attempts per contest and is averaging career-highs in rebounds and assists per game.

Niang and the Cavaliers no longer have the best record in the NBA after their recent skid, though they still have a commanding lead in the standings for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. The No. 2 seed Boston Celtics are currently 5.5 games back of Cleveland.

The Celtics and Cavaliers will soon do battle once again. The teams are slated to face off against one another on Feb. 4 in what will be a home outing for the East’s No. 1 seed. Fans of the Cavaliers should circle their calendars for that looming matchup.

In the meantime, the squad has games to take care of against the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks, with Cleveland looking to regain its spot as the top team in the entire NBA.
