Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Ty Jerome’s home in Los Angeles was reportedly broken into on Jan. 17, according to TMZ Sports. The thieves responsible allegedly gained entry into the residence through a glass window that was broken.
According to police, however, the criminals left Jerome’s home soon after breaking in, and it’s not known at this time what was stolen or if anything was stolen at all. It’s also unclear if the break-in is related to a trend of celebrity athletes who have been victims of burglaries lately.
The burglary occurred while Jerome was out of the area and on a road trip with the Cavaliers. Cleveland’s road trip spanned three games from Jan. 14 through Jan. 18, and the team played the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves during that stretch.
Also according to TMZ Sports, the expectation is that Jerome or someone representing him will soon contact the police to talk about what he thinks was taken from his house.
Despite the fact that Jerome was a victim of a home invasion, he didn’t seem to let the incident impact his play on the floor when the Cavaliers took on the Timberwolves the following day on Jan. 18. In fact, he was one of Cleveland’s more productive bench players in its seven-point victory.
In under 22 minutes of action, he torched Minnesota for 15 points on 5-of-7 from the field and 2-of-2 from 3-point range. He ended up tied with Georges Niang for the most points scored of any bench player for the Cavaliers in that contest.
Jerome is arguably enjoying a career year in his second season as a member of the Cavaliers organization. He’s averaging 10.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game. Furthermore, he’s shooting 50.3 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from 3-point range in 39 games played to this point.
He is trying to win a title for the first time of his NBA career and seems to have a real shot to capture a ring with the Cavaliers later in the year. Cleveland has only six losses through 42 games played and owns a 6.5-game lead over the Boston Celtics for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
