LeBron breaks his silence on how ‘amazing’ Cavs look: ‘I’m glad I was able to put on 1st’

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James had some major praise for the Cleveland Cavaliers this season, saying that the team has the opportunity to “do something special.”

“By the way, the Cavs look amazing right now as well,” James said. “They got another opportunity.”

The four-time NBA champion continued.

“I hope they keep it going,” James said. “They got an opportunity to do something special. So, I’m glad I was able to put on first – set the trend – and hopefully we keep it going.”

James obviously won a title with the Cavs during the 2015-16 NBA season, leading Cleveland back from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors. The former No. 1 overall began his career with the Cavs and after a brief stint in Miami, returned to the franchise to deliver its first NBA title.

Now, the Cavs are in search of a second title, and they may have the core to get it done this season.

Through 39 games, the Cavs have a 34-5 record – the best mark in the NBA. In addition to that, Cleveland has opened up a six-game lead on the Boston Celtics for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. If the Cavs can hold onto that lead, they’d have home court in every playoff series against Eastern Conference opponents.

Plus, if the Cavs maintain the best record in the league, they’d keep home court for the NBA Finals.

The Cavs showed a ton of belief in their current core in the offseason, as they extended the contracts of Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. That trio, along with point guard Darius Garland, has grown together over the last few seasons.

In Mitchell’s first season with the Cavs (the 2022-23 campaign), Cleveland made the playoffs for the first time since James had left the franchise for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Then, in the 2023-24 season, the Cavs won a playoff series against the Orlando Magic. While Cleveland’s season ended in the second round of the playoffs at the hands of the Celtics, it still was a step forward for the franchise.

Now, the Cavs are hoping to reach the Finals in the first season with Kenny Atkinson as their head coach. There’s still a long way to go in the 2024-25 regular season, but James appears confident that his former squad can make a deep run.
