Jaylon Tyson most excited to learn from Caris LeVert: ‘That’s the biggest one I’m trying to learn from’

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Jaylon Tyson shared which player that he’s most excited to learn from ahead of the 2024-25 regular season.

“I’m excited man, I could name everybody,” Tyson said about which teammates he’s eager to learn from. “But probably Caris LeVert, he’s in my position. I want to learn from him. I want to learn how he got to this point – how he’s at the point that he’s at. So, that’s the biggest one I’m trying to learn from.”

LeVert has become a key piece for the Cavs – mainly in a bench role – the past few seasons. Last season, he appeared in 68 games and made 10 starts. The former first-round pick averaged 14.0 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the field and 32.5 percent from beyond the arc.

The Cavs selected Tyson in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft, and the young forward could have a chance to earn playing time right away in Kenny Atkinson’s rotation.

Cleveland has yet to bring back restricted free agent wing Isaac Okoro, and if the former lottery pick doesn’t return to the franchise, it could open up minutes for a player like Tyson to earn.

During Summer League, Tyson showcased why the Cavs are high on him and picked him in the 2024 NBA Draft. The rookie averaged 15.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game while shooting 58.8 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from 3-point range in Las Vegas, building on a successful collegiate career.

With Tyson likely to be a bench piece as a rookie, it makes sense that he wants to learn from LeVert, who has adapted to being an important scoring option behind Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland in the Cavs’ rotation.

A three-year player in college, Tyson averaged 19.6 points per game in the 2023-24 season while shooting 36.0 percent from beyond the arc. He certainly knows how to score the ball, but learning from an established veteran like LeVert will likely help him adapt to the NBA level.

Cavs fans have to love that the rookie is so eager to learn, and hopefully he can make an impact in his first NBA season for a Cavs team that has its eyes on a third consecutive playoff berth.
